The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science proudly celebrated its founding and achievements during a series of events held during the 2011 - 2012 year commemorating the school's 25th anniversary.
Founders of the school, based at The University of Texas at Dallas, first sought to create educational programs for prospective and employed engineers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Over the years, however, the Jonsson School has boomed and earned national recognition.
With more than 120 tenure-track faculty and 3,600 undergraduate and graduate students, the school's undergraduate programs are ranked 60th by U.S. News & World Report among the nation's public schools of engineering. Its graduate programs rank 41st among public schools of engineering.
To commemorate the anniversary, the school hosted a year-long series of lectures to be given by national experts in diverse areas of engineering and computer science. The first lecture was given by UT Dallas President David E. Daniel, whose lecture was titled, "Grand Challenges: Why the World Needs Engineers Now More than Ever."
