Former Dean of the Erik Jonsson School (1995-2002)

Abstract
Dr. Osborne will speak on the history and culture of UTD and the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and the effects of this background on his experiences as Dean of the Jonsson School. He will also discuss the making of the telecommunications degree as well as his forecast for the future of the Jonsson School.

Bio
Dr. Osborne holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Kentucky and a PhD degree from New Mexico State University. In 1970, he joined the telecommunication industry serving in a variety of roles, including research engineer, VP of Engineering, President and General manager of a division of COMSAT Corp., and CEO of a venture-backed start-up. In 1990, Dr Osborne returned to the academic world and served as a Chaired Professor at New Mexico State and as Dean at UT Dallas, The University of Missouri, Kansas City and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale until his retirement in 2009. He became an IEEE Fellow in 2005 principally as a result of his efforts in the development of the Erik Jonsson School. He served on the board of SigmaTel Inc. in Austin,TX from 2001 to 2008, acting as Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2008. He also served on the boards of @Track Communications in Dallas and CenterPoint Communications in San Jose. He is currently retired in Western Kentucky with his wife Mary Anne.
