For the second year in a row, UTD conferred the most computer science degrees in the nation—at the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. levels combined, according to the American Society of Engineering Education data.
UTD also ranks first in the total number of computer science degrees awarded to women and second in the number of female tenured/tenure track computer science faculty members within an engineering school.
Significantly, the Jonsson School has only two departments at present – electrical engineering and computer science – while other more “comprehensive” engineering schools have as many as six or seven. Despite that, the Jonsson School, according to the ASEE figures, ranked 75th in the nation in 2003-2004 in the total number of doctoral degrees conferred, 22nd in the number of master’s degrees and 46th in the number of bachelor’s degrees.
Incoming UTD students have the highest SAT scores of any public university in Texas.
UTD aims to provide Texas and the nation with the benefits of educational and research programs of the highest quality, with a current enrollment of more than 14,000 students and a world-class faculty that includes two Nobel laureates.
The student faculty ratio at UTD is 23:1, providing students with more personalized, one-on-one attention in the classroom.
More than 800 high-tech firms are located within a five-mile radius of the UTD campus, and make up one of the largest high-tech areas in the United States. This offers students excellent co-op, internship and employment opportunities.
The UTD campus continues to grow, breaking ground in 2004 on an $85 million, state-of-the-art Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory, fueling UTD's drive to become a "tier one" academic research institution.
The Jonsson School boasts the largest Engineering and Computer Science employment co-op program in the state and the sixth largest in the nation.
All undergraduate degree programs in the Jonsson School offer the Fast Track master's program that allows students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in five years
