Amber Trammell
B.S., Computer Engineering
Next step
After graduation I am starting as a software engineer at Cisco Systems in Richardson. Before I start at Cisco, I am traveling to Japan and getting married.
Educational highlights
My favorite experience at the Jonsson School was being apart of the Society of Women Engineers. I was able to gain invaluable leadership experience, meet ECS faculty and staff who a lot of students do not get the opportunity to meet, and learn from amazing student leaders. There were so many chances for me to get involved with the engineering school and feel as though I made an impact, which has always been an important goal for me.
I am split between Dr. Dodge and Mr. Ozbirn as my favorite professor. Dr. Dodge introduced me to one of my favorite fields of engineering: digital logic design. He made the classes interesting and always found a way to relate what we were doing to the real world. Mr. Ozbirn taught one of my favorite classes: Data Structures and Algorithms. I was able to relate really well to how he taught, and I felt that almost everything I learned in that class has stuck with me, not just having been memorized and forgotten later. He assigned programming projects that were not too easy yet not impossible. I felt like I accomplished something, and that is the best feeling after a project.
Long-term plans
I really want to get into a career where I can interact with people regularly while still working with technology. I am still deciding between pursuing a managerial route or trying my hand at customer training or support.
Final thoughts
I will be the first woman to graduate with a B.S in computer engineering from UTD! (Due to the recent addition of this degree program.) I also really want be in a position to help both the Jonsson School and the UT Dallas SWE section grow, as well as witness the amazing changes UTD will encounter in years to come.
