Next step
I’m moving to Seattle to work for Microsoft as program manager on the Windows Experience team, and eventually I plan to get a master’s degree at the University of Washington.

Educational highlights
I enjoyed my CS project class because we got to implement our own P2P network. With many aspects of computing moving toward a more decentralized model, being able to understand how a P2P network works will very likely have a much greater application than just building the next target for the RIAA and MPAA to go after.

The most important thing I learned was how to work on software projects with other people efficiently and effectively. Not only does working on a team promote a good design (due to everyone working on their own individual pieces and then needing to integrate them), it also forces you to communicate well and consider how your design decisions are going to impact others. Seeing as how very few projects in industry are worked on by only one person, I think this will be the most lasting knowledge I gained since it can be applied regardless of the language being used.

Long-term plans
I would love to eventually get into the game industry and work on game development and design. Designing games has been what I’ve wanted to do since fifth grade, and I definitely still see myself being involved with that industry in the future.

Final thoughts
While at UTD I was a student athletic trainer for the baseball team for a couple years, and I was also the event chair for the 2008 and 2009 Game Engineering Conference.
